Hello, I’m Des

I first got the taste for painting when I was at school in North Wales. Art was the one class where I didn’t want the bell to ring. It’s an interest that has stayed with me since those formative years.

As a long-standing Isle of Man resident, now retired, I have more time on my hands to expand my hobby. I consider myself to be a versatile, expressive artist, not afraid to take a risk, working across a variety of applications and dimensions.

From my studio at home in Woodbourne Road, Douglas, I enjoy using many materials. Although I have painted numerous watercolours and acrylics, I also like pastel work, the utilisation of clay, wood, wax, cloth, metal and epoxy resin.  I like nothing more than to experiment and I’m not afraid to try a new dimension.

As a former Chairman of The Manx Art Society, my passion is seeing people enjoy art – whether you are an artist yourself or just appreciate viewing various pieces in a gallery. I am always happy to lend a hand to fellow artists, to share experiences and to offer any advice where I can. I believe in encouraging young people to exploit their artistic talent and be confident in their ability to promote their artwork. So feel free to contact me for any help and support.

I add new pictures once they become available. I hope that you will enjoy the various mediums and the contrasting technique used for each work of art. Please get in touch if you do! I look forward to positive criticism and advice.

Above all, art should be fun – enjoy it!
